1. This is awesome and touching at the same time: Aidan’s monsters

“Aidan is five years old and was diagnosed with leukemia in September. To keep up his spirits during his stay at the hosptial, and to help pay medical bills, Aidan draws monsters and sells them on Etsy.”

  2. How would you draw yourself? A sketchy interview technique

The other day I twittered about Elisa whom I share an office with (amongst others) here in Kreuzberg.
We got together for a cup of coffee and chatted about what she’s working on, what I’m making a living with and how being creative in Berlin differs from London or Paris. She also told me about an interview she once did for design blog mat and me where she was asked to draw here answers.
I love this little twist on how to portray people. And it turns out that these pictures actually tell quite a bit about the person being interviewed. Have a look at the different ways designers visually described themselves. And maybe also do it yourself or ask people you work with, it’s quite a fun exercise.

  4. My little thank you to the guys at @verk for letting me work at their office

I got this friend called Anders whom I went to the KaosPilots with. Back in the days at school I used to crash his appartment when I was homeless in Århus (where the KP is based) in between projects in different countries. Nowadays, while I’m spending time in Copenhagen, I’m crashing his office.
Anders is a really nice guy and so are his co-workers. They run a company called verkdigital consultancy that invents and builds simple systems to improve organizations (aka websites).
We initially agreed on a nice little trade off called “waffles for desk”. I get a desk for a week, they get the full-scale Anna Lena waffle treatment - the ones who have tried know what this means ;)

But, oh dear, there is no waffle iron here and since verk is also into redesigning their CI a bit, we thought it might be a nice idea for me to draw a little to add to their profile.
So may I present: Anders, Christian, Marianne, Martin and Rasmus!
Thanks guys and gals! Having a blast here.

  6. Having to teach yourself how to draw has its merits, too - you find stuff like this

I started with this whole visual thing roughly half a year ago - and have never really drawn or sketched in my life before. Except some doodling on paper while talking on the phone, which is as much being a singer as humming under the shower is.
So I look around for things that can help me pick up skills quickly and are inexpensive. Street art here in Berlin is a great guide, and of course the internet is a neverending stream of inspiration.
I found this pdf particularly helpful because it makes going from 2D to 3D drawings quite easy. And it also has movements and expressions in it which is exactly what I need for graphic recording where anything you draw has to be finished almost immediately.

There are more drawing tutorials by this guy on his scribd page. Now that site only needs a flattr button and I could leave a valuable thank you note :)

  8. Haha, would LOVE to draw with some of those!

“Mustache crayons are made from Crayola crayons so they are non toxic and have the most vibrant hues.

Each crayon is the equivalent of about 5 regular sized crayons.”

  9. I went to “Im Namen des Raumes” with @maliqu. Awesome gallery space with silhouette drawings & lighting

    Current exhibition: schwarzwald
A nice play on Southern German traditions and fairy tales. There’s also a crazy cuckoo clock with glitz, glam and plastic. Check it out if you’re in the neighbourhood.
